Its's only 9:30 am and I'm already feeling an "I hate Philadelphia" day coming on. To be honest, most days are like this as I absolutely despise this city...but let me explain. I have lived every where from small town VA to Washington DC and Manhattan. I ride public transportation everywhere, walk whenever possible and generally enjoy the conveniences a city has to offer, like 5 dry cleaners within a stones throw of my apartment. I also understand that there is some element of rudeness that goes along with city living. It is a fact of life you will get bumped into on the street and there will always be people who are too busy to hold doors open etc. I get it. HOWEVER, Philadelphia is a whole different animal. As a former resident of NYC, whose inhabitants routinely get bad raps for being rude and terrible drivers, NYC can't hold a candle to the rudeness, laziness, general incompetence and inability to operate motors vehicle of Philly.
This morning I was indulging my (decaf) coffee habit at McDonalds. I may eat McDonalds once or twice a year, but after yesterday's Dunkin Donuts debacle (I'll explain later), I'd try McD's for a cheap cup of joe. UGHH mistake. I should just stick to the ING Cafe, lesson learned. I am pretty lactose intolerant and its only gotten worse since being pregnant, so when the cashier asked how many creme and sugars, I asked for milk because while creme is out of the question, I can tolerate a splash of skim milk. The darling cashier laughed at me like I was being some kind of princess; I really didnt feel like explaining that no, I'm not generally picky, I just prefer spending my afternoon at my desk instead of the bathroom, thankyouverymuch. So finally I got my small decaf coffee and a cup of WHOLE milk...and when I say cup, I mean there was just enough liquid at the bottom to cover the base of the cup. PERFECT.
Philadelphia is not the city of brotherly love and as far as I'm concerned, if I never live here after these next 2 years, it will be too soon. Send me back to NYC where people actually get things done (like trash collection...its a joke here) or the South where people smile and say hello. I am done with Philly.
