Things I didn't know until I became a wife and mother:
1. What the real meaning of exhausted is. A newborn will teach you that really quickly!
2. The true meaning of multi-tasking. exhibit a. this morning I got one load of laundry done, folded 2 other loads, got dinner on for tonight, put dishes away, got myself ready for work, got the Little Man dressed (twice thanks to a spilled milk incident), and laid out clothes for our drive to my parents' tonight....all before 7:30 am.
3. What it means to really love someone.
4. What true happiness feels like.
5. How true it is that "home is where the heart is"
6. How at peace my soul would be with the right person.

Today
Today has been one of those days you crave on a busy day and loathe when it actually happens... I am pretty caught up at work and have checked my email, facebook and the blogs of all my friends about 50 million times and created TWO blog posts in one day. This lack of activity is NO GOOD. I have time to realize how uncomfortable my desk chair is, dream up all of things I'd like to go shopping for, and plot how I'm going to maneuver $ around to pay off the credit card bills and put $ into savings and pay my student loans. I also have had plenty of time to think about how much I'm ready to have another baby (no, this is not an announcement said baby is on its way...I'm just saying I am soooo ready). Alas, residency is putting a damper on that right now...Dr. F is officially on call on our anniversary and my birthday this year...Christmas remains to be seen. Awesome.
Today has also give me plenty of time to think about this terrible article in the free commuter paper yesterday. It was an interview with the creator of a website whose motto is "Life's short, have an affair." It was despicable and it was even worse how much the guy thought he was doing nothing wrong. I can't believe he thinks he's doing nothing wrong profiteering on the breakdown of marriages and families. The creator claims the US is too puritanical and way behind Western Europe with our views on marriage and sexuality. Well, if general outrage at his antics and beliefs is behind, count me in. I fully understand sometimes marriages must end for the mental and physical health of all involved, however to flaunt the idea that having an affair is a harmless recreational activity...?
Anyway, has anyone else heard of this crap and what are your thoughts?

Hives
I couldn't believe it, but as Dr. F was rubbing steroid cream on my back before bed last night he confirmed that I do in fact have hives. Best guess to the cause of this annoying and itchy condition: a combo of the extreme heat and dermatographism*. So this morning I had to find a business appropriate outfit that wouldn't require a bra to reduce the skin irritation. Thank you GAP for making tank tops with shelf bras and Express for your lovely cardigan :)
In other news, I am having trouble understanding people who leisurely stroll at 8:30 am on the sidewalk like they have no idea the rest of the population is trying to get around them to go to work. Seriously!.
Finally, because I realized I've been terrible about taking pictures of an increasingly active moving target, I broke out the camera and took these (OF MY 20 mo OLD!) this weekend:
*if you use an object (such as the end of a spoon handle) to write your name on your arm without too much force, the result is the appearance of your name on your skin in the form of itchy raised red welts. This occurs within a couple of minutes or less.

My Love Affair with Target part II
So in our quest to become real adult people Dr. F and I really wanted a patio set that wasn't a hand-me-down 20 yr old folding card table and mismatched old lawn chairs. However, we also refused to pay a ridiculous amount of money they all seemed to cost; we decided to wait until the middle of summer when things start to go on sale. By coincidence at my aforementioned trip(s) to Target I repeatedly checked the lawn and garden section. By Saturday this table 
was on clearance down from $325 to $93. It was set up on our patio by 5:30 pm that day :) However, the set of four chairs was still $300. Granted, that was down from $599 but we weren't sold. So yesterday was Dr.F's day off and he went back to Target after checking out Home Depot and Lowes and found that in the course of 2 days the chairs were reduced to $145 for all of them! I got home from work to find these babies gracing our patio
And just like a real adult I brought the cushions in before the skies opened up. Hooray!
*side note: did you know that Lowes doesnt really have end of the season clearance sales because they just pack it all up and store things in the back to bring out next spring? BUT if you check in April at the start of the season, they do mark down last season's discontinued items.

Back to the Grind
It was another quiet (but cooler!) weekend in Philly and as we're getting into a routine things are settling down nicely. On Friday Dr. F and I had our first movie night date in a loooong time. We watched Moon with Sam Rockwell. I am NOT into sci-fi, but Dr. F is and he'd been bugging me to see this. I did not enjoy it while I watched it, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and the questions it raises. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something not mainstream.
Saturday Dr. F was back in the hospital bright and early so Aidan and I ran some errands, including Target. I swear its impossible to come out of there without spending $100. Well, I was feeling so guilty that we went back on Sunday and I returned a cute pair of shoes I didn't absolutely need and few other things...which was great because I went right back to their grocery department and re-spent the money on things we actually do need, like food. Have I mentioned how awesome the grocery section of Target is?!
Which leads me to the impromptu bbq we had. Both Dr. F and I looked at each other on Saturday afternoon and said "we're bored! lets have people over" so we headed back to Target (thats right, my second trip in one day) and hit up amazing sales like 2 packs of Hebrew National hot dogs for $5 and buns for $1 and corn for $.30 an ear. We had a great time with our friends Corey and Jason.
On Sunday Aidan fell in love with the little girl behind us in church and he proceeded to flirt the entire time. When he wasnt making eyes at her I managed to wrangle him with Goldfish. In the afternoon we all took naps, it was GLORIOUS!! Then yesterday evening we crashed a block party one block away from us and made some new friends. Of course, none of them have kids, but at least we know some of the neighbors now. All in all, a good weekend and we're feeling rested and ready for another week.

Out of Sorts
Well I don't know about you, but this weather coupled with a 4 day week thanks to the Fourth of July and Dr. F finally having his first day off in 9 days (with 2 on call days mixed in there) have really thrown me off. I feel so out of sorts and I HATE it. Last night I was laying in bed when I realized I forgot to put the Little Man's lunch in the fridge, so I had to turn off the alarm, go back downstairs and put it away. Then this morning I realized that I forgot to put the coffee in the fridge last night so it would be cold this morning. I walked RIGHT PASSED IT last night. Additionally, my house is a wreck. I feel like I just can't keep it neat...its too much working full time, packing lunches, making dinner and keeping everything in order. I am tired and not sleeping well. And just to add to the list of complaints, I'm bored. I dont know how to not go 1,000,000 mph. OH WELL.
We're also dealing with the awesomeness of a terrible landlord from our old apartment who still hasn't returned our security deposit. It is now 42 days since we turned in our key and he legally had 30 days from that date to return our $1100. He must be used to not dealing with people who are willing to fight for their money, but he's never dealt with us. $1100 is a lot of money and he's basically stolen it. So naturally we've contacted a good buddy of Dr. F who just happens to be a collections lawyer in the Philly area. Apparently, by ignoring the 30 day deadline our landlord has opened the door to allowing us to sue for DOUBLE the deposit. AND by not providing an itemized list of things he had to "fix" (that apartment was spotless and in better condition when we left it)he's forfeited his right to deduct any money for repairs. Oh, and did I mention I have every email written to him, dated photos of the apartment from when we moved in and moved out as well as an itemized walk-through check list? Bring it on scumbag. YOU'RE GOING DOWN!

Happy Birthday, America!
I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday weekend... and managed to stay somewhat cool, it that was even possible! We were pretty low key as Dr. F was on call and had to work all weekend (booooo!), but his mom and sister did make it up for a quick trip and we had a great BBQ in our back yard complete with homemade cherry pie, watermelon, bugers and dogs, corn on the cob and pasta salad. Dr. F got home just in time to fire up the grill and I'm confident Aidan ate his weight in watermelon, which is probably why I had to completely strip his bed in the morning. Despite an overnight diaper...well the kid was well hydrated :)
This 4th of July was also interesting because not 2 weeks ago I finished reading David McCullough's book 1776. It was FASCINATING and I highly recommend it. It is no secret I'm a huge history nerd, but my knowledge about American history is embarrassing to say the least. However, even if you're not a history nerd, this book reads like a movie and is so interesting. I was able to really reflect on the 4th in a different way this year and appreciated so much more what that generation did for our country and the world. Did you know that we actually lost 25,000 men over the course of the Revolution? Thats 1% of the US population at that time. It was bloody and vicious and its nothing short of a miracle we actually won. Check this one out, you won't be disappointed!

I love Joe
Trader Joes that is. HOLY COW I forgot how ridiculously awesome that place is. I mean if the amount of organic food, low prices, and stunning selection of pre-made but not horrible for you food isnt enough to get you going, I dont know what is!?
