I am happy to report that this weekend was significantly better than last and this week is shaping up to be great as well. First of all, no one was sick! Hooray!! Dr. F was home by 2pm on Saturday and Sunday!!, we had a great visit with Dr. F's cousin and her kids (pictures coming tomorrow), we went on a family walk and I hung new blinds in the dinning room. All in all it was great, even inspite of me locking myself out on Saturday morning...go me! :)
Last night Dr. F and I even had a date! Well, ok it wasn't a data date, but we finally got around to doing something we've been talking about for awhile, a money date! As part of our marriage prep counseling they suggested we have regular "money dates" to check in with each other and make sure we're on the same page with our finances. We both agreed this was a great idea, but never seemed to find the time to actually do it and I already pay all the bills. However, I've been bugging Dr. F to do this for awhile and I'm so glad we did. I showed him how I pay the bills, what account has what in it, what our recent payments were for and exactly how much we have in our savings. He actually told me that he didn't realize how many bills we had, all the basic utilities plus netflix, internet, security system etc. We went over our retirement investments (just basic 401K stuff, we dont actually have any real money...) and talked more seriously about converting our mud/laundry room into a 1/2 bath. I have to say, I woke up this morning feeling so peaceful and I think I can attribute it to finally just showing him where all the money goes. We're pretty aggressive savers and although I have the occasional weakness for Trader Joes and Target (oh dont get me started on Target!) I was starting to feel defensive when he would be shocked at how little was in our account and wanted to know where the money was going. Um, baby, its going to alllll the bills you learned about last night ;) So anyway, I highly highly recommend having money dates, its just one more way to be on the same team and working towards the same goals. We're going to make it a weekly or bi-weekly date and everyone will know just where the money is going....and yes, I'll still be paying the bills :)

Ha, Todd is definitely the "jenna" in our relationship. I am unfortunately not so good with money...actually that's not true--I'm not good with complicated money. I can handle the checking account etc. and bill paying, but anything that requires advanced visualization or spacial skills, forget it.
Haha, posting about money/budgeting must be in the air (I just posted about our budget - or more specifically, our need for a budget)! Also, Trader Joe's and Target are my two biggest weaknesses, so I feel you there. I love the idea of a money date, though! We'll definitely be putting this into practice.
Um, seriously between you and MF, Mr. must be in blog reading heaven today...and disbelief that WIVES exist WHO UNDERSTAND MONEY. Because I simply do not fall into that category. I can't help it!
Maybe if we had regularly scheduled "dates" rather than SWEET JESUS LOOK AT THE CC BILL dates, our lives would be easier:)
I have to admit, after my bill paying tutorial, I got a lesson in the stock market because in our relationship I handle the day to day and Dr. F handles the long haul stock market investing... he was an econ major after all. :)
