Loss of Respect

I just read an article where Jillian Michaels the awesome delusional trainer said the following: 'Biggest Loser' trainer Jillian Michaels told Women's Health she would rather adopt than become pregnant, saying, "I can't handle doing that to my body."

I find this disturbing and offensive on so many levels and as someone who thoroughly mourned the "loss" of her body it hit me hard. Sure, I'm finally mostly back to my pre-baby size/weight, but things are just shifted around (I'm looking at you hips and boobs!) Yet I would NEVER, not for anything, trade my son for my pre-baby body. And yes, the roller coaster of things pregnancy does to a body is amazing, frustrating, trying etc. but all so worth it and really mind blowing of when you think about what your body can do!

I'll admit I used to say to myself that I'd never let myself get a little rounder in the hips or stop working out. I was that snot nosed 23/24 yr old gym rat who made a mental note of all the things I wasn't going to do when I got married/had a baby. I'd like to slap said younger self. Pregnancy is not an excuse to let yourself go, and while I firmly believe that, but I also know that now if I have to choose between making dinner for my family, reading a book with my son and paying attention to my marriage or going to the gym for an hour, we'll I'll let you guess what I'll choose. every.single.time.

Jillian, I'm concerned for you. You seem to be so pro keeping a healthy body and working with nature, eating organic etc that you seem to miss the very point that pregnancy is natural. I applaude the inclination to adopt, but only for the right reasons. Having a child, biological or adopted can never be a selfish descision and clearly you're alittle more selfish than we thought.

What a wonderful weekend!

This weekend was awesome and well deserved if I may say so. My day off on Friday was fab and I found the most delicious Baskin Robbins oreo cookie ice cream and devils food cake. HOT DAMN  it was good and there are leftovers in the freezer = dangerous to my hips! We had a great visit with my family complete with good food and beautiful weather. Aidan had so much fun with his uncle and my parents...he's been asking for them multiple times a day since they left! Dr. F and I even got to go on a date for my birthday and we had so much fun. He happened to have a gift card to this fantastic (and pricey, so we'd never go there on our own) restaurant. It was AMAZING. Three words: King Crab Tempura. I also looked super hot with my hair not in a bun and some sexy red birthday shoes. On Sunday we had a great time with a backyard BBQ despite the rain. The best part was that it was a mixture of my friends and Dr. F's friends and everyone got along. I had quite a great birthday weekend that yesterday (the real day) was actually a bit of a let down. After all the fun we had it was hard to be back at work, taking care of a screaming child and having Dr. F on call. Oh well, it was good while it lasted :)

Well hellooo date night. I've missed you!

Its my Friday

Hooray! Today is my Friday this week and I'm so excited that I wish I could take today off too! :) My parents and younger brother are coming for a visit and its going to be a beautiful weather weekend. My brother is coming in tonight and my parents are coming in late tomorrow morning, which means that I have a very limited amount of time to get my house in order, but there's an insy weensy little problem with that....I'm so close to finishing The Girl Who Played With Fire and people, its good. I breezed through the first one (The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo) in about 2 days and will put this one away in about 3 days. Now I just need to find the third book in the trilogy (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest). Dr. F asked me last night if I'm enjoying having time to read on my commute now and I told yes, definitely, but when the books are this good, its like I'm on a mission to finish them and then things like this happen : Dr. F as we're going to bed "Baby, I'm out of clean scrubs and boxers..." Me "I'm sorry I didnt get to the laundry I planned to do tonight, my nose was in a book..." and thus, my house is a mess, we might be buying clean underwear instead of doing laundry and we're having company this weekend... but damn it, these books are goooood!

Any suggestions on what to read next? And no, I will not read the Twilight series on principle. I just can't do it.

Go Shorty, its your birthday!

No, its not my birthday today, but it will be in a few days and as I've been making my "to do" list with errands and laundry on it, I realized one of the items is to pick up a birthday cake. for myself. Now, I think this is kinda funny and yet so practical, even though I recognize it is a bit absurd. I mean, who buys their own birthday cakes? Let me tell you, the wife of a medical resident who consistently puts in over 80hrs a week in the hospital.I'm also kinda type A and very picky about my cakes. I waffle each year between the classic Funfetti and a Baskin Robbins Ice cream cake. This year I'll be going with the BR cake. I LOVE those! I think I'm even going to have them write "Happy Birthday Jenna!" on it just because I can.

I'm quite happy with this arrangement actually because one year I got a cake that wasn't what I wanted AT ALL. Now, lest I sound like a spoiled brat, when you give someone a gift it should be something they want, not what you want to give them, right? I'll let you make your own assumptions from there. So this year, I get to pick out the cake, the flavor and the color my name is written in. And I'm going to love every second of it!! :)

ps. Dr. F did get me a present on his own, so don't think too poorly of him, I dont! :)

We're on the mend!

I am happy to report that this weekend was significantly better than last and this week is shaping up to be great as well. First of all, no one was sick! Hooray!! Dr. F was home by 2pm on Saturday and Sunday!!, we had a great visit with Dr. F's cousin and her kids (pictures coming tomorrow), we went on a family walk and I hung new blinds in the dinning room. All in all it was great, even inspite of me locking myself out on Saturday morning...go me! :)

Last night Dr. F and I even had a date! Well, ok it wasn't a data date, but we finally got around to doing something we've been talking about for awhile, a money date! As part of our marriage prep counseling they suggested we have regular "money dates" to check in with each other and make sure we're on the same page with our finances. We both agreed this was a great idea, but never seemed to find the time to actually do it and I already pay all the bills. However, I've been bugging Dr. F to do this for awhile and I'm so glad we did. I showed him how I pay the bills, what account has what in it, what our recent payments were for and exactly how much we have in our savings. He actually told me that he didn't realize how many bills we had, all the basic utilities plus netflix, internet, security system etc. We went over our retirement investments (just basic 401K stuff, we dont actually have any real money...) and talked more seriously about converting our mud/laundry room into a 1/2 bath. I have to say, I woke up this morning feeling so peaceful and I think I can attribute it to finally just showing him where all the money goes. We're pretty aggressive savers and although I have the occasional weakness for Trader Joes and Target (oh dont get me started on Target!) I was starting to feel defensive when he would be shocked at how little was in our account and wanted to know where the money was going. Um, baby, its going to alllll the bills you learned about last night ;) So anyway, I highly highly recommend having money dates, its just one more way to be on the same team and working towards the same goals. We're going to make it a weekly or bi-weekly date and everyone will know just where the money is going....and yes, I'll still be paying the bills :)

Things are looking up...

Let me tell you, I would not wish this bug on my worst enemy, but things are starting to get better, I even managed some gatorade and chicken noodle soup today. What is it about campbells chicken noodle soup that is so perfect for sick days?! Well, you can guess I didn't go to work today and instead took it easy and  even got some ironing and laundry done while watching the Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. I am such a huge fan of those movies!! :)

I've also been doing some research on potty training because we've gotten some pretty definite confirmation that the Little Man is READY! (Anthony's cousin is a neonatologist whom we constantly consult... I swear I am the only one in the family who isnt a doctor!) So I'm researching potty chairs and ordered Elmo's Potty Time dvd. We are open to any suggestions about how to go about this process!

Anyway, at least today is Wed. We're half way there and lest I eat my words again, this weekend has to be better than last, right?
